Fresh Fruits, Veggies, and Laughter

Laughter therapy has been used to improve moods, relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve circulation, according to research.

Earlier this year, employees, physicians, and Kaiser Permanente members and neighbors who made their way to the West Los Angeles medical center Farmers’ Market received doses of humor along with their fresh produce, thanks to a special laughter therapy demo presented by West LA’s Farmers’ Market Champions team. The free, 15-minute “laughing sessions” were part of a larger initiative to promote the benefits of laughing and visiting our weekly Farmers’ Market.

Laughter therapy has been used to improve moods, relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve circulation, according to research. Led by Diane Roosth, LCSW, BCD, CLL, the laughter therapy demonstration allowed Farmers’ Market patrons to release some stress through laughter and gain helpful tools and tips to incorporate into their everyday routine.

“It felt good to laugh again,” said one participant who had spent the previous three weeks visiting his wife in the hospital.
