Fire Up Your Feet Yields Cash Awards, Healthier Students

Fall activity challenge promotes physical activity, helping students, teachers, and staff achieve better health.

It’s no secret that healthy students are happy, more productive students. In an effort to get more kids moving towards better health, the Fire Up Your Feet Fall Activity Challenge awarded $18,500 in cash prizes to 26 schools across Southern California for logging the most combined physical activity among students, family, teachers, and staff.

The top prize of $5,000 was awarded to JCS Innovation Center in San Diego. The Southern California region winners are:

The Fire Up Your Feet challenge is held twice a year, during spring and fall, and is a part of Kaiser Permanente’s national Thriving Schools initiative to improve the health of students, staff and teachers in K-8 schools.

Since the launch of Fire Up Your Feet in 2011, Kaiser Permanente and Fire Up Your Feet have awarded more than $370,000 in awards to nearly 400 participating schools as of November 2015. These schools have used their awards to add physical activity equipment and improve programs to ensure that students get 60 minutes of physical activity each day. The next challenge will be held in May, 2016.
