Kaiser Permanente volunteers in South Bay kicked off their Day of Service on Jan. 19 at the Foodbank of Southern California in Long Beach. They sorted and repacked 14 palettes of food boxes that will benefit under-resourced children, families, and seniors in Los Angeles County.

Kaiser Permanente volunteers partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Jordan-Locke Network on Jan. 21 to convert a 109th Street Elementary School classroom into a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) lab. They also created an outdoor garden with murals.

Across the region, volunteers rolled up their sleeves – many using paid time off – to make a difference in remembrance of Dr. King’s commitment to community service. Their impact is felt through dozens of projects, including cleaning school campuses, gardening, painting, offering health education in under-resourced communities, and gathering supplies for the homeless, to name a few.
The MLK Day of Service supports Kaiser Permanente’s mission and the belief that health extends beyond the doctor’s office and the hospital and starts in our own communities. Creating healthy environments with successful schools and safe parks and playgrounds helps people in our communities by increasing access to resources needed to thrive.
