Thriving Schools

Why is School Health Important?

Thriving Schools is a partnership by Kaiser Permanente and top national organizations to create a culture of health and wellness for students, teachers and staff in K-12 schools.

When schools inspire and help students and teachers to be at their physical, mental and emotional best, the results are:

  • Increased focus and attention
  • Improved academic achievement
  • Improved attendance
  • Improved health of students, teacher and staff

How Thriving Schools Can Help

With collaborative partners such as the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Thriving Schools promotes student and workforce health through programs that promote healthy eating, improve nutrition, foster more physical activity, decrease stress, and support greater social and emotional well-being. Through our partnerships we’ve helped to promote safe walking and bike paths, healthier school food policies, physical activity in the classroom, and other improvements.

Our Thriving Schools initiative links schools to Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre (ET), a community benefit program that uses live theatre, music, comedy and drama to inspire children, teens, and adults to make healthier choices and better decisions about their well-being.

A robust online resource, thrivingschools.kaiserpermanente.org, offers a wide range of ready-to-use tools to engage partners, students, staff and teachers in activities and school wellness programs.
