Despite the launch of the Affordable Care Act, there are members of our communities who still will not be able to afford health insurance. The California Medi-Cal program provides health care coverage for some of the most vulnerable populations in the state and Kaiser Permanente participates in the Medi-Cal program to provide high quality care to enrolled beneficiaries in most counties currently served by the health plan.
Medi-Cal offers free or low-cost health coverage for California residents who meet eligibility requirements, regardless of sex, race, religion, color, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, age, disability, or veteran status.
Kaiser Permanente is an active participant in Medi-Cal managed care and our Fee-for-Service program provides care to Medi-Cal beneficiaries who are not Kaiser Permanente members but who may find it necessary to receive emergency care at one of our facilities.
Kaiser provides these services through either a direct contract with the State of California (Sacramento and San Diego GMC) or under a "Plan Partner" arrangement with other public, not-for-profit Health Plans.
